Perfect Bound Green Desk Reference

This book is a primer of simple changes in daily life that people can make to become more green. While obvious to some, the purpose of the project was to create a “gateway book” for individuals to reduce their environmental footprint and gradually change mindsets without making a big change in their behavior. The book layout is designed to be read normally or flipped through in a non-linear fashion. Each page or spread contains a subject and relative to-dos at various levels of action.

Bill for Washington Sinfonietta February Concert

Washington Sinfonietta February concert poster

This poster was designed to look formal and contemporary. The design principle behind this work is the juxtaposition of the organic shape with the highly ordered text. This subtly reinforces the theme of transformation and transcendence established by the imagery.

Musician Austin Mendenhall’s Website

This site was an exercise in simplicity. It’s a one page site that links out to the more active elements of Austin’s web presence. It is an interactive interpretation of his most recent album “What’s the Rush?” designed by Nevine Younes. The design scheme calls for an asymmetric two column layout that is actually coded as three. An underlying grid defines the typography both inside the modules and out creating an articulated page rhythm. The site is temporarily down while Austin resolves a domain name issue, but in the meantime click the image above to visit the locally hosted design template.

Children’s Program Cover for Washington Sinfonietta Holiday Concert

This cover is for a half letter sheet activity book made specially for children. The book contains trivia, coloring pages, crossword puzzles, etc. I decided to keep the title block I used for the regular program instead of trying to shoehorn a childlike font in with the script of the Washington Sinfonietta logo. I focused more on the illustration and color.

University Transition Program Website

This was one of my last student projects; it introduced me to web standards and accessibility. It was the first site I coded with CSS, and taught me a great deal about structuring and developing multi-tier, multi-page projects. The department wanted a site that was youthful, while still adhering to the core structure of the GMU development guidelines.
